Nestled within the vibrant Northshore Plaza in Singapore, Downstairs is a delightful cafe that captures the essence of local culture and community through its unique culinary offerings. This hidden gem exudes a welcoming vibe, inviting visitors to enjoy a taste of comfort food that resonates with nostalgic memories of meals shared among friends and family.

Upon entering, you're greeted with charming decor that pays homage to Singapore's HDB (Housing Development Board) lifestyle, featuring vintage letter boxes and stone stools reminiscent of simpler times. This casual and cozy atmosphere makes it the perfect spot to unwind, whether you’re catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet moment alone.

Downstairs serves a delightful array of local dishes that speak to the heart of Singaporean cuisine. Must-try mains include the Hainanese Pork Cutlet Rice (SGD 10.70), a scrumptious dish that features tender pork immersed in a savory sauce that will awaken your taste buds. If you're in the mood for something more distinct, the Har Cheong Gai Rice (SGD 10.33) offers crispy prawn paste chicken that is a true crowd-pleaser. For those seeking warmth and comfort, the Macaroni Soup (SGD 8.95) envelops you in creamy goodness, perfect for any meal of the day.

One of the highlights on the menu is the Chicken Chop Hor Fun, where stir-fried rice noodles are complemented by a thick, savory sauce, creating a symphony of flavors that dance delightfully on your palate. Another standout is the intriguing Lu Rou Mian With Lava Egg (SGD 10.70), where delectable braised pork meets a perfectly cooked egg, ready to release its rich yolk—a true treat for food lovers.

Of course, no meal would be complete without a refreshing beverage. Indulge in a chilled Iced Lemon Tea (SGD 3.50) that offers a sunny splash of citrus to brighten your day, or try the classic Hot When in Doubt, Have Tea (SGD 2.13) to experience a warm hug in a cup.

Real customer experiences echo the warm atmosphere and culinary satisfaction that Downstairs has curated. As Jason Deng noted, the cafe brings back memories of enjoying local meals right “downstairs.” Several visitors have praised the taste and quality, with one reviewer appreciating the satisfying combination of flavors and textures, especially the crispy fishcake and luncheon meat as part of the bee hoon.

With its unique cultural charm and delicious menu options, Downstairs is more than just a cafe; it’s a culinary experience that evokes fond memories while inviting you to create new ones. So, whether you’re a local or a visitor to Singapore, make sure to stop by Downstairs at Northshore Plaza for a memorable dining experience that warms not just the stomach but the soul.

Housing development board aka hdb is home to the majority of Singaporeans. Especially when we were younger, we can get food from our house’s downstairs. Perhaps this was the reason why this shop was born. Calling themselves ‘downstairs’, the shop welcomes you with a typical hdb carpark lot sign. When you enters the shop, you will find old hdb letter boxes, stone stool and table, “phone booth”, old coin phone at the coffeeshops and even a no playing of football sign. When we were younger, downstair food is probably chicken rice, char kway tiao, wanton mee etc. Sad to say there is no chicken rice or char kway tiao here. Though there is a wanton mee dish. We decided to get har cheong gai nasi lemak and lu rou fan since these look nice. Top up $1.50 to complete the meal with a drink. Toast is not included though. The 1st mouth of the nasi lemak is good! Full of coconut milk taste, making me want to take the 2nd and 3rd mouth and so on. The sambal chili is powerful. Very nice to go with the rice. Omelette is not those thin thin paper kind, it is consider quick thick and chunky. There is also fish cake which is decent. The highlight is the har cheong gai, crispy and tender. Good. Lu rou fan is easy to eat. One mouth after the next. It is comparable to some taiwanese stalls and confirm can eat. Downstairs’ location : We had it in the newest mall in Singapore, northshore plaza. I understand there is another stall at suntec city. Northshore plaza’s carpark is pretty discreet if you ask me. Need to park at the hdb estate beside the mall and then take a lift and walk abit to the mall. Don’t panic if you cant find your way, can always ask around for directions #downstairs #localfood #luroufan #harcheonggai #nasilemak

The salted egg chicken ($9.20) is tasty and have crispiness in it, will be good if more gravy to it as eating the rice alone is too dry. Prawn paste chicken ($8) also tasted well, just kinda small and abit dry. Chicken chop hor fun ($7.50) quite nice overall. Larva egg ($1.70) not bad, but sunny side up the York is fully cooked so not as great as it looks in the picture when ordering..

One of my favourites brunch place. The price is reasonable and the coffee is good (except sometimes they will forget to add sugar). Usually I go for breakfast set. Luncheon meat bun and coffee cost around $5.50, the bun is crispy, and the set is quite filling. Most of the time the bee hoon will be sold out quite early, so need to be there early if want to eat.

Came for lunch at about 1pm++, have to wait awhile to get a table. There is one and only self ordering koisk which isnt that touch sensitive. Curry Chicken taste similar to what we have at home, but the Chicken Chop Hor Fun was so-so. Still a pleasant dining experience. Kitchen oblidged to more pork lards when we requested for our hor fun. Help yourself to sambal and belcan chili. (Take what you need, dont waste).

Ordered the Downstairs Bee Hoon ($5) using my SG60 voucher. The service was good, the staff was polite and prepared my meal quite fast. The meal tasted nice, the bee hoon was cooked well. Both the fishcake and luncheon meat were hot and had a crispy texture. There were some spring onion added along the fried egg too. The meal was quite oily though so it could be an issue for people who do not like oily food. But overall, it's quite a nice place to have a meal as well. The decor was made to look like an old school void deck which was quite unique. I would say this is a good place to spend $5 for a small cheap meal with your CDC/SG60 voucher.
